How did you get into MMA?
I got into MMA after watching UFC 1. I started with stand up and eventually decided to train grappling. I began competing in boxing and grappling tournaments which eventually led to my love of MMA and training and learning martial arts.
What is your martial arts background?
I started out like most people with Taekwondo at an early age. I then began boxing and continued that for several years. I eventually tried a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class and was immediately hooked. I began teaching BJJ 6 years ago and received my black belt in 2020. I now train BJJ and Muay Thai as much as possible.
Why do you officiate MMA?
I got into officiating MMA because of my love of the sport and appreciation for the fighters. I feel the fighters deserve officials who both care about their safety and understand the sport and how it is scored. As someone who has trained and competed in martial arts, I have an appreciation for the amount of effort that goes into a fight and understand the importance of the official's role in ensuring the safety and correct outcome of a fight.
What is your career background?
I graduated college with dual degrees in Shooting Complex Management and Wildlife Management, after which I worked for several outfitting services across the US. I then opened my own outfitting service in Illinois which I operated for several years. I eventually moved to Nevada and have been training and teaching Jiu Jitsu ever since. I am now serving as an amateur MMA Judge in both Nevada and California.
What do you do on your time off?
In my time off I like to train martial arts and go hiking. I also enjoy hunting and fishing and spending time with my wife and dogs.
