How did you get into MMA?

I began as a fan of the sport in high school. My curiosity of the sport and the specific details of certain techniques led me to begin Jiu Jitsu. Not long after, I began cross training in Muay Thai kickboxing and MMA.

What is your martial arts background?

As a child, I trained and competed in Kempo Karate. In my teenage years, I began to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing. From there on, I began competing in multiple grappling competitions with much success. Eventually, I began to coach entry level Jiu Jitsu students and youth competition teams.

Why do you officiate MMA?

I officiate MMA because I am passionate about the sport in every technical aspect that is not commonly known or understood. When I am officiating MMA, I feel a sense of responsibility to keep the competition as fair and unbiased as possible. Coming from a competitive combat sports background, I understand how important every fight is. It is my duty to keep the fighters from unnecessary problems and distraction while maintaining a sense of authority and respect.

What is your career background?

My career background mainly consists of working in the food service industry as a Bartender and Restaurant Manager. I’ve also taught fundamental Jiu Jitsu and grappling-based self-defense. Prior to certification, I’ve worked as an Inspector for the Oregon State Athletic Commission (OSAC). After becoming certified, I began as a Judge and am training to become a Referee for OSAC.

What do you do on your time off?

In my time off, I enjoy action sports and a variety of activities ranging from riding motorcycles to anything water-related. I also enjoy snowboarding and surfing.
